For those who may be new to the series, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald picks up where the first film left off. Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a young magizoologist, has just thwarted the plans of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) in New York City. However, Grindelwald has escaped and is now wreaking havoc in Europe, recruiting followers and spreading darkness throughout the wizarding world.

As the story unfolds, we meet new characters, including Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol) and Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), who are still reeling from the events of the first film. We also see the return of familiar faces, such as Auror Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) and Nicolas Flamel (Michael Sheen).
